This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Minister’s children (a 10-year-old son and daughters aged 8 and 2) are exclusively citizens of Ukraine. There is no citizenship of other countries for the Umerov family members.
Ukrainian passports, issued after the expiration of the previous ones, were obtained by them at the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States. That is why the place of document issuance indicated in the declaration referenced by the media was the USA.
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that in 2016, the family of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine was forced to leave the country due to threats and attacks resulting from Rustem Umerov’s systematic activities related to the de-occupation of temporarily occupied Crimea.
Since 2014, Rustem Umerov, as a delegate of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people, along with the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev and representatives of the Mejlis, has been addressing international platforms on human rights violations in occupied Crimea and has been involved in the process of releasing political prisoners from Crimea.
