The incident is believed to be related to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, according to information from a source in the special services, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.
A spokesperson for the publication mentioned that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense was behind the operation to destroy the Su-34. The intelligence source stated, “We confirm that the enemy’s aircraft burned down”.
It’s noteworthy that “Shagol” is a military airfield located northwest of the city of Chelyabinsk. The airfield is suitable for aircraft such as Il-76, An-22, Tu-134, and all light aircraft, as well as helicopters of all types. It is widely used as a parachute airfield and a temporary base during exercises.
This airport serves as a primary location for training flights for cadets of the Chelyabinsk Military Aviation Institute of Navigators. The airfield is home to Tu-134Sh, Tu-134UBL, and An-26Sh aircraft of the 221st Training Aviation Base of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
