This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, after negotiations with the Portuguese leader, as reported by “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“Portugal is a participant in our tank and aviation coalition. Today, Portugal confirmed its readiness to join in training Ukrainian pilots and engineering personnel on F-16 aircraft”, he stated.
Zelensky shared that they also discussed possibilities for expanding defense cooperation, including the supply of armored medical equipment and demining equipment to Ukraine. Moreover, the President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of Portugal joining the G7 declaration regarding security assurances for Ukraine.
“We thank Portugal for supporting the Peace Formula, participating in joint work with partners on preparing the summits ‘Ukraine – Latin America,’ ‘Ukraine – Africa'”, he said.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine counts on robust, systematic work and a comprehensive agreement for the restoration of relations between the countries.
Recall that President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal visited Ukraine for the first time on the occasion of Independence Day. He visited Bucha and paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the Russian occupation near the temple of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
