This was reported by the spokesperson of the Operational Command “South”.
“The Russian occupying forces have blown up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station. Currently, the scale of the destruction, the speed and volume of water, and the likely flooded areas are being clarified. All services are working. The situation is being monitored”, the statement said.
The information about the explosion was also confirmed by the head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
He noted that the evacuation of the local population from the dangerous areas has begun. According to him, the critical water level will be reached in 5 hours.
At the same time, local Telegram channels have spread videos showing the aftermath of the power station’s explosion.
The Kherson Regional State Administration reported that units of the National Police and the State Emergency Service of the Kherson region have been put on alert to notify and evacuate the civilian population from potential flood zones on the right bank of the Dnieper River, namely the villages of Mykolaivka, Olhivka, Liovo, Tyahynka, Ponyativka, Ivanivka, Tokarivka, Ponyativka, Prydniprovske, Sadove, and partially the city of Kherson – Korabel Island.
Earlier, it was reported that the occupants had opened the gates of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, flooding their own positions.
