This was reported on Kyiv24 by Oleksiy Kharkivskyi, the chief patrol officer of the Vovchansk police department.
“There are cases where people trying to cross the Vovcha River were shot. Street fighting is currently ongoing on the other side. The Defense Forces are trying to push the enemy away from Vovchansk, but people have to break through from streets controlled by the Russians”, he said.
Oleksiy Kharkivskyi emphasized that people are trying to flee by any means possible, both safe and dangerous. They swim across the river and, despite constant shelling, attempt to leave the active combat zone.
“There have already been several instances of civilians being shot. These incidents have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. An investigation is ongoing. Despite this, people are still escaping from those areas; yesterday, we evacuated eight such people. It’s dangerous because Vovchansk is under continuous shelling, the enemy uses everything they can, including guided bombs, missiles, and drones. It’s very dangerous to remain in the city”, the police officer added.
It is worth noting that around a hundred people remain in Vovchansk.
