The EU is starting the screening process of Ukrainian legislation

This was announced by Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, during her address to the European Parliament.

She also revealed the initiation of a negotiation framework for Ukraine’s membership in the EU.

“We are starting the screening process and forming the negotiation framework. Meanwhile, we will also begin working on our own reforms, our own reforms”, she said.

The President of the European Commission added that the EU has agreed to start negotiations with Moldova, and Georgia has been granted candidate status for membership. Von der Leyen emphasized that Western Balkan countries are part of the European community. During her statement, the expansion of the European Union to 35 member countries was announced.

“Millions of Ukrainians’ hearts are filled with joy and hope when we announced the opening of accession negotiations. The people of Ukraine fought hard to achieve this not only on the battlefield but also through the work of democratic institutions”, highlighted von der Leyen.

The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a bilateral meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, where they agreed to commence the screening of Ukrainian legislation/
