The IAEA has called for the immediate withdrawal of Russian forces from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

This information was reported by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate.

“The situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP site is worsening every day, as the occupiers are directly compromising the nuclear safety and security of the plant. Therefore, in order to restore nuclear and radiation safety, it is necessary to promptly withdraw Russian military personnel and Russian staff, in accordance with the resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors”, the statement said.

It emphasized that representatives of Rosatom, who are illegally present at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and effectively accomplices to the war crimes committed by Russia and its military, are recruiting personnel without the appropriate qualifications.

Due to the dismantling or theft of important system components by Russian aggressors, significant efforts and resources are required to restore the physical protection system at the station. The occupiers have nearly completely degraded the emergency preparedness and response system at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Furthermore, at the order of the occupation “administration,” the transmission of information from the Automated Radiation Monitoring System (ARMS) of the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been blocked.

It should be noted that on May 22, as a result of the Russian shelling, the Zaporizhzhia NPP experienced a blackout for the seventh time.

On May 31, Ukraine and Russia did not approve the IAEA plan for the protection of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Neither Ukraine nor Russia agreed to adhere to the five principles proposed by IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi regarding the protection of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.
