The Ukrainian MFA responded to Viktor Orban’s call for negotiations with Russia

Such a comment was published by the spokesperson, Oleg Nikolenko, in response to Orban’s repeated calls for negotiations with Russia.

Oleg Nikolenko reiterated that Kyiv’s position regarding negotiations with Russia remains unchanged: talks can only take place after the complete withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory.

“Ceasefire without fulfilling this condition will lead to the freezing of the status quo, giving Russia the opportunity to regroup, accumulate forces, and resort to a new wave of aggression. This has been proven by the experience of 2014-2022”, he noted.

The spokesperson pointed out that the ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities are clear evidence that Moscow does not consider any other scenarios besides continuing the war.

“At the same time, we have taken into account Viktor Orban’s statements about the difficulty of being the only prime minister in the EU advocating for peace. To alleviate this situation, we call on the head of the Hungarian government to finally take action. For example, to condemn Russian aggression, demand that Moscow end the war and return the Russian army to Russian territory, join international efforts to isolate Russia, and not undermine unity within the EU”, the spokesperson added.

As previously reported, Orban called on Ukraine to start peaceful negotiations with Russia without launching a counteroffensive. He made this statement in an interview with Kossuth Radio. According to Orban, the one who attacks suffers three times more losses than the one who defends, and therefore negotiations are the optimal option for Ukraine.
