The Ukrainian Navy will establish an anti-mine division

The spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, announced plans to create a fully-fledged anti-mine division within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Pletenchuk, mine safety is currently one of their top priorities.

“We are moving forward, and as for further prospects, the creation of a full-fledged anti-mine division is currently being discussed because one of our main tasks is to ensure the safety of civilian navigation in the waters of our seas”, said Pletenchuk.

The spokesperson added that the Navy already has two mine countermeasure ships participating in the Sea Breeze exercises and expressed hope that there would be at least four such units. They also expect to receive two ships from the Netherlands.

Pletenchuk also noted that demining operations are conducted regularly.

“We have a mobile demining group that constantly deals with explosive ordnance in the visible zone, in the coastal area, and those that are washed ashore or found underwater”, he explained.

However, a comprehensive area clearance operation is a highly complex task that requires a range of favorable factors, primarily the cessation of hostilities, added the spokesperson.

As previously reported, on the eve of the Navy Day, the Ukrainian Navy conducted amphibious training exercises. According to the training scenario, a hostile sabotage and reconnaissance group attacked a Ukrainian checkpoint, leading to a fierce battle. Marine reinforcements arrived on patrol boats in support of the defenders. They disembarked on the shore of the reservoir and helped eliminate the enemy.
