Ukraine needs guarantees of NATO membership after the war

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Volodymyr Havrylov in an interview with Politico.

“We would like to hear a plan, a roadmap, or a list of actions that both sides – NATO and Ukraine – should take to achieve membership in a very short period of time”, he said.

Havrylov acknowledges that Kyiv’s membership in the Alliance is impossible while the full-scale war is ongoing.

“At the same time, we must understand that after our victory, our process (editor’s note – of joining) the bloc will be very, very short”, the official says. According to him, Ukraine will simultaneously negotiate with NATO on a “security guarantee system” for the transitional period before membership in the Alliance, including the commitments of NATO countries to help Kyiv win the war, support the Ukrainian economy, as well as support sanctions and other forms of pressure on Russia.

It should be recalled that President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that Ukraine will not involve any NATO member country in the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine.

Therefore, there will be no membership in the Alliance as long as this war continues.
