All four reactors will be built at the Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant.
“I think in the summer-fall we will start the construction. We need reactor casings, which we will have to import. We want to immediately make the third and fourth blocks”, Galushchenko stated.
“We want to compensate for what is at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant”, he added.
Two of the blocks will be based on Russian-made equipment that Ukraine intends to import from Bulgaria. This includes reactors and related equipment.
“We are now negotiating with our Bulgarian partners about two reactors that we want to import”, Galushchenko reported.
The other two reactors will utilize Western technologies from energy equipment manufacturer Westinghouse. According to the minister, initial results from these projects could be achieved in 2.5 years. Currently, three power plants on territory controlled by Ukraine produce over 55% of the country’s electricity needs.
