Michal visited cities in the Kyiv region that were particularly affected by Russian troops.
He will also meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, on Wednesday. He will discuss how Ireland and the EU can provide support the country’s current and future needs.
Mr Martin will witness first-hand the devastation caused by the bombardment and targeted attacks on civilians during the invasion and occupation by Russian forces.
“The Prime Minister will reiterate Ireland’s full backing for continuing sanctions against Putin’s regime, for Ukraine’s path to full EU membership, as well as our commitment to work with EU colleagues to ensure the reconstruction of Ukraine” – the statement said.
The exact details of the visit were not disclosed for security reasons, but it is known that Martin arrived in Kyiv by overground transport from Poland.
