This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko today, July 14.
“I am proud that it is an honor to live with you at the same time,” said the official.
The day for presenting the award was chosen for a reason. Today, July 14, is the National Day of France. Kostenko was awarded by French Ambassador to Ukraine Etienne de Pons.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko joined in the congratulations.
“Lina Kostenko is the personification of the spirit and dignity of the Ukrainian people. A person who never broke under the times and circumstances, and also did not change her principles. Her work inspired and inspired Ukrainians to fight for freedom and never give up, and this is very important,” Klitschko said.
Lina Kostenko is an honorary professor of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and an honorary doctor of Lviv and Chernivtsi universities. In Soviet times, she took an active part in the dissident movement.
Back in 2005, Lina Kostenko refused the title of Hero of Ukraine. She emphasized that poets need only words to communicate with people. In recent years, Lina Kostenko is not open to the public.
