According to the state energy company Ukrhydroenergo, the station is not eligible for restoration.
“According to preliminary forecasts, the reservoir is expected to be activated within the next 4 days. As of 9:00 on June 6, the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir is rapidly decreasing, and the evacuation of the population from potential flood areas has begun”, the statement said.
Ukrhydroenergo also reminded that the water from the Kakhovka reservoir is necessary for supplying Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant with cooling water for turbines and safety systems. Currently, the cooling pond is filled, and the situation is under control.
Experts from the company are working on specifying the scale of destruction, the speed, and volume of water.
Earlier, we reported that the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, announced that Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant is under threat due to the detonation of the Kakhovka reservoir. Yermak also stated that the central and regional authorities are working on resolving the issue.
In connection with the occupation’s explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky convened an emergency meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.
