The Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station has been completely destroyed by an explosion from within. It cannot be repaired.
According to the state energy company Ukrhydroenergo, the station is not eligible for restoration.
“According to preliminary forecasts, the reservoir is expected to be activated within the next 4 days. As of 9:00 on June 6, the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir is rapidly decreasing, and the evacuation of the population from potential flood areas has begun”, the statement said.
Ukrhydroenergo also reminded that the water from the Kakhovka reservoir is necessary for supplying Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant with cooling water for turbines and safety systems. Currently, the cooling pond is filled, and the situation is under control.
Experts from the company are working on specifying the scale of destruction, the speed, and volume of water.
