The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Ukrainian Ambassador

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing “strong protest” through Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavel Yablonsky.

The reason for this action was President Zelensky’s comments during his UN General Assembly address. Yablonsky stated that such statements are “incorrect regarding Poland and especially unjustified toward a country that has supported Ukraine from the first days of the war”.

Yablonsky also mentioned “pressure on Poland in multilateral forums”. According to him, bringing complaints to international courts will not resolve disputes between countries. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Poland is acting to protect the interests of its farmers and that its decisions do not violate national or international law or EU legislation.

Yablonsky expressed concern about recent statements by Ukrainian government officials, as he believes they impose a one-sided view on the complex issue of Ukrainian agricultural exports to neighboring countries.

In his UN General Assembly speech, President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned restrictions on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products by certain European Union member states. He stated, “And it’s worrying to see how some in Europe play solidarity in the political theater, turning grain supplies into a thriller. It may seem like they’re playing their own role, but in fact, they’re helping prepare the stage for the Moscow actor”.

As a reminder, Ukraine will impose an embargo on Polish vegetables in the coming days, and Prime Minister Muravetsky has threatened to reduce assistance to Ukraine for refugees.
