To the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, visitors to the National preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” have a unique opportunity to see the oldest in Kyiv, “Mazepa Bell”. This is reported on the Facebook page of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Preserve.
It is noted that according to a previously reached agreement with the management of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (men’s monastery), a 340-year-old bell – a gift of Hetman Ivan Mazepa to the Ascension Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Maiden Monastery – was handed over to the reserve for permanent storage.
It is the oldest uncast bell in Kyiv. This is evidenced by the inscription on it, which informs that in 1683 the bell was handed over by “Ivan Stefanov, Mazepa’s son” in memory of his parents.
Anyone can view the bell from 14:00 on July 28 to August 1, 2022, on the Cathedral Square of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, near the northern wall of the Great Lavra bell tower.
After that, the monument will be handed over to the restorers of the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” for carrying out the necessary restoration and conservation measures.
