This year, the Security Service neutralized hundreds of Russian cyberattacks on and cyber incidents at Ukrainian energy facilities, of which almost 30 could become critical.
“Missile strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities are often accompanied by cyberattacks. Such a scenario was expected, so none of them was effective,” Vitiuk noted.
According to the official, since October, Russian systemic cyberattacks have been taking place on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Previously, the enemy also attacked the electronic networks of the country’s energy facilities, although not so massively.
“There were also specific attempts to shut down power and destroy the digital infrastructure of individual regional energy companies and CHPPs. Fortunately, we were able to prevent this,” said the head of the SBU Cyber Security Department.
He emphasized that the SBU’s cyber units have become much stronger this year. Now they not only effectively hold the defense on the cyber front, but also massively attack the enemy themselves.
As reported, Viktiuk emphasized that since the full-scale invasion, SBU cyber security experts have exposed more than 1,200 agitators who were spreading fakes and Russian narratives online.
