Russian occupiers intend to hold employees of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant hostage.

This was reported by NAEK “Energoatom”.

“Considering the severe shortage of professional nuclear workers necessary for the operation of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP and fearing the Ukrainian offensive, the Russians are preparing for the long-term detention of Zaporizhzhia NPP employees. The aggressors have already brought in a lot of provisions and water to the station. It is likely that the occupiers will not release the station’s personnel after one of their shifts, forcibly blocking them at the Zaporizhzhia NPP”, the statement said.

It is noted that the occupiers had already done something similar at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, when they closed the shift at the Chernobyl NPP.

At that time, the aggressors held the station’s personnel hostage for about a month, not allowing them to leave until the de-occupation.

As previously reported, the occupiers are installing additional barriers on the approaches to the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Thus, the Russians are expanding the closed perimeter around the station, apparently preparing it for defense. Now, Zaporizhzhia NPP employees will have to walk part of the way to the plant.
