The Office of the Prosecutor General is investigating information on crimes committed by the leaders and participants of the so-called Wagner Private Military Company (PMC).

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“The Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations has been updated with information regarding the facts set out in Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violations of the laws and customs of war. The circumstances stated in the interview will be verified as part of criminal investigations and given the appropriate legal assessment”, law enforcement officials said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office emphasizes that it is providing procedural guidance in cases related to the actions of representatives of the PMC who are fighting on the side of Russia. They are being investigated for involvement in aggressive war, encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and the commission of war crimes.

“During the investigations, the head of the so-called Wagner PMC and the head of one of its units were charged with aggressive war and encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine (Articles 437 and 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Separate participants were charged with murder and cruel treatment of civilians (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)”, the Prosecutor General’s Office added.

On April 17, the Russian human rights project Gulagu.net released a video in which convicted Russians from the Wagner PMC, who were recruited from Russian prisons, confessed to the murders of Ukrainian children in Bakhmut and Soledar. The perpetrators are currently in Russia.

The Office of the President responded to the confessions of the Wagner soldiers in crimes against civilians and insisted on the punishment of the war criminals.
