Courts in Ukraine have already issued seven verdicts against clergy of the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate who sided with the Russia in its war against Ukrainian. One of the priests was exchanged for 28 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
This was statedby the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
“The enemy values their agents in cassocks very highly”, he said.
Counterintelligence measures against the UOC-MP began last year and resulted in criminal proceedings against 61 clergymen. The Security Service has also revoked the Ukrainian citizenship of 19 UOC-MP priests based on their actions.
Maliuk emphasized that wearing a cassock and burning incense does not exempt anyone from criminal responsibility, and no indulgences are granted. The law is being strictly enforced, regardless of ecclesiastical status.
