On May 4th in the evening, a Bayraktar TB2 drone lost control over Kyiv and was shot down by defenders because it posed a threat due to its uncontrolled state.
This was reported by the command of the Ukrainian Air Force.
“At around 8 pm on May 4th, during a routine flight over the Kyiv region, the Bayraktar TB2 UAV lost control. Since the uncontrolled presence of the UAV in the capital’s airspace could have led to undesirable consequences, a decision was made to use the calculations of mobile firing groups. Target – destroyed! It’s a shame, but it’s just technology, and such cases happen”, the statement reads.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces Air Force suspects that the incident was caused by a technical malfunction of the drone. The reasons for the event are being investigated.
As a result of the drone’s combat activities and the debris falling, there were no casualties or injuries.
