Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has announced the provision of heavy weaponry and ammunition to Ukraine totaling nearly 100 million euros.
This was reported on the official website of the Finnish government.
The cost of the package, which includes heavy weaponry and ammunition, amounts to 94 million euros. The total value of Finnish military assistance to Ukraine is estimated at 1.3 billion euros.
“The support for Ukraine by Finland and our allies remains unwavering. The key question for the future security order in Europe and Finland is the ability to deter Russian aggression against Ukraine”, said the Minister of Defense of the country, Antti Kaikkonen.
It’s emphasized that when making the decision about additional assistance, Finland has taken into account both the needs of Ukraine and the resources of the Armed Forces. Additional details regarding the content, method, and schedule of the aid are not disclosed for security reasons.
Additionally, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated that the Finnish government has decided to appoint a special individual within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the country’s participation in reconstruction efforts in Ukraine. According to the head of the Finnish government, the reconstruction opens significant opportunities for Finnish business companies. Orpo mentioned that Finland can offer world-class solutions in areas such as clean energy, construction sector, digitalization, and cooperation in the field of education.
On August 23, the first visit of Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo to Ukraine took place since becoming the head of the Finnish government. It was expected that the country would approve the 18th aid package for Ukraine in the near future.
