Incumbent President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced that he will run for president again if the elections take place in 2024 during the war.

The head of state revealed this in an interview with Portuguese public television RTP, cited by BBC News Ukraine.

“In 2024, if the war continues and if elections are held, I will never abandon my country, because I am the guarantor of the Constitution, and I will defend it in any case”, he said.

In the interview with Portuguese media, Zelensky clarified certain conditions for holding the elections. He reiterated that Western partners should fund such elections, and issues related to the security in Ukraine and voting conditions for refugees need to be resolved.

It should be noted that before the 2019 elections, Zelensky promised in his program that he would serve only one term and would not run for a second term. However, two years ago, in 2021, he was preparing for the elections.

Recently, the President stated that legislative changes, significant funding from partners, and international observers in the trenches are necessary for the 2024 elections.
