Special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) succeeded in taking back control of gas platforms near the shores of Crimea in the Black Sea

This was reported by the GUR of the Ministry of Defense.

The unique operation to establish control over the gas platforms was conducted by the units of Ukraine’s GUR, which included regaining control of the drilling platforms “Petro Hodovalets” and “Ukraine,” as well as the vessels “Tavrida” and “Sivash”.

During the operation, special forces managed to capture valuable trophies, including a supply of unguided aviation rockets (NAR) and the “Neva” radar system, which can track the movement of ships in the Black Sea.

During one phase of this operation, a skirmish took place between Ukrainian special forces on boats and a Russian Su-30 fighter jet. As a result of the skirmish, the Russian aircraft sustained damage and was forced to retreat.

Background: The so called gas platforms “Boyka Platforms” are drilling gas and oil extraction platforms located near the shores of Crimea in the Black Sea. Russia occupied them in 2014 and, with the onset of full-scale invasion, used them for military purposes, including as helicopter landing sites and for the placement of radar systems.
