Ukrainian special forces conducted operations in Sudan against Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Private Military Company (PMC) and their local allies from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who attempted a coup in April.
This information has been confirmed by sources within Ukrainian intelligence circles and has been substantiated by several videos depicting the work of snipers, FPV drone attacks, and skirmishes.
Details of the operation are not currently being disclosed.
Earlier, CNN reported on September attacks against RSF forces near the cities of Shambat and Khartoum. Journalists attributed responsibility for these attacks to Ukrainian special services. The use of FPV drones “in the Ukrainian style” was a characteristic feature.
In total, journalists counted eight drone attacks on RSF vehicles and facilities, as well as one ground operation in the suburbs of Khartoum in Omdurman, where a group of special forces stormed a building.
The report did not mention attacks on the Wagner PMC themselves. In response to this report, the Main Intelligence Directorate only cited Kiril Budanov’s statement that “Ukraine will eliminate Russian war criminals wherever they may be”.
Fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted on April 15, 2023. RSF opposes the incumbent government and claims to seek democracy in the country. Currently, over 3,000 deaths and 6,000 injuries have been reported due to this conflict. According to the UN, over one million people have fled the country.
