The European Union Agency for law enforcement cooperation (Europol) has joined the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) focused on serious international crimes committed in Ukraine.
This information was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Reintegration.
The relevant agreement was signed by the Chief Prosecutors of seven participating countries and Europol’s Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle, during the 17th meeting of the Consultative Forum of Eurojust Chief Prosecutors.
Europol will provide analytical and forensic support to JIT members and participate in the collection and analysis of data obtained legally from open sources, including social media, television, and radio broadcasts.
Additionally, Europol will share its knowledge and expertise in the field of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
It’s worth noting that the Joint Investigation Team was established in March last year with the support of Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine. Later, Estonia, Latvia, and Slovakia joined the team, and in the autumn of 2022, Romania became a member.
