The project launch was planned since December 2021.

Kyiv to become one more city with Barnahus center— a safe space for child victims or witnesses of violence This is reported by UNICEF Ukraine.

The intention to open the center in Kyiv was officially announced in December 2021, and as a result of the war, they decided to speed up the launch process.

It is reported that currently UNICEF, joint with its partner “Ukrainian Public Health Foundation”, were conducting training for specialists who, as part of interdisciplinary teams, will provide comprehensive and coordinated assistance to children and promote the administration of justice process.

The training is important because it provides an opportunity to bring together representatives of the social industry and the justice system at the same table, unite around one child and act together to ensure child’s best interests.

The teams include judges, investigators, prosecutors, psychologists, doctors, representatives of the service for children and juvenile prevention, teachers and other specialists whose task is to make the justice process as friendly and non-traumatic as possible.

During training, participants work out the standards of the “Barnachus” model, the specifics of building interaction with a child and questioning a child, the specifics of the cooperation of the persons involved in conducting a child’s survey.

The implementation of the Barnahus model in Ukraine began a year ago, when the first center was opened in the Vinnytsia.
