On January 9, 2024, Ukrainian drones from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR MO) attacked an oil base and an energy facility in Oryol, Russia.

The attack was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the “Come Back Alive” fund.

According to sources in Ukrainian special services, the attack resulted in significant damage to the oil depot, and the energy facility was disabled. Special service sources reported that the attack targets were hit, and reconnaissance operations are currently underway.

Earlier, the governor of the Oryol region, Andrey Klichkov, had stated that two UAVs had fallen onto the Orelnefteprodukt oil depot on Seminarskaya Street in Oryol. He claimed that the drone had allegedly hit an empty reservoir. Additionally, a fire broke out due to the attack, and emergency services were on the scene, according to the official.

Eyewitnesses also mentioned that the second drone attacked the Orelenergo company, responsible for providing the region with electricity.
