Romanian farmers have once again blocked the border with Ukraine at the checkpoints "Siret" and "Vicovu de Sus – Krasnoilsk".
This information was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
At both border checkpoints, passenger cars, buses, and pedestrians can go through the established procedure for entry and exit from Ukraine.
On January 13, Romanian farmers blocked the movement of trucks through the “Siret – Porubne” checkpoint during the day, and in the evening, they stopped the blockade. Now the blockade has started again.
Romanian media outlets Digi24 and Stiripesurse report that carriers are demanding changes to the conditions of mandatory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners, exemption of agricultural machinery and trucks from periodic technical inspections, abolition of mandatory GPS installation, improvement of the agricultural sector’s financing system, and a ban on importing Ukrainian grain into the country.
The Romanian government is not willing to meet these demands, so farmers and carriers are on strike, spontaneously blocking roads across the country and border checkpoints with Moldova, Bulgaria, and now Ukraine.
Polish farmers also blocked the border with Ukraine, demanding subsidies for the purchase of corn and keeping the agricultural tax unchanged. On January 6, 2024, the Polish government signed an agreement with them, after which they unblocked the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint, but queues remained there. Since November 6, 2023, several border checkpoints for trucks have remained partially blocked, including “Korchova – Krakovets,” “Grebenne – Rava-Ruska,” and “Dorohusk – Yahodyn.” These are blocked by Polish carriers.
