On the night of January 17, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed a Russian suicide drone of the "Shahed" type at a distance of nine kilometers, utilizing the hybrid air defense system.
Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kamishin, announced this at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“One of the systems was used successfully for the first time today (January 17). We shot down the ‘Shahed’ from a distance of nine kilometers, and this is the first use of such a system. We have about five such projects in this portfolio. I am glad that all these systems have already been deployed on the battlefield”, said the official.
Ukraine successfully neutralized a Russian suicide drone of the “Shahed” type using a hybrid air defense system developed jointly with the U.S. Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kamishin, made this announcement at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Kamishin emphasized that the full development of its own anti-air defense would take years, so Ukraine decided to create an improvised air defense system. Ukrainian specialists took Soviet components and applied Western missiles to them, or vice versa.
On December 6, the White House website published a statement indicating that the U.S. Department of Defense provided technological data to Ukraine for the production of hybrid air defense systems FrankenSAM.
The three anti-aircraft missile systems in question are:
- The “Buk” SAM system with American RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missiles.
- “Air-to-air” AIM-9M missiles in combination with Soviet radars.
- An anti-aircraft missile system based on old Ukrainian systems with Patriot missiles.
