On January 24 Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico in Uzhhorod to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyha
This was reported by Prime Minister Shmyhal himself.
“Today, we are having a meeting with Prime Minister Robert Fico in Uzhhorod”, he noted.
The agenda includes discussions on bilateral relations between Ukraine and Slovakia, as well as the support for European initiatives. Shmyhal emphasized his expectation for a “constructive and practical dialogue.”
It’s worth mentioning that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico made controversial statements about full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine. When questioned by journalists about why he would meet the Ukrainian prime minister in Uzhhorod instead of Kyiv, Fico replied with skepticism about the existence of war in Kyiv, saying, “Do you really think there’s a war in Kyiv? You can’t be serious, I hope… There is absolutely normal life there. Why should I go to Kyiv when I can meet the prime minister in Uzhhorod? I don’t see any difference.”
On January 20, Robert Fico announced his visit to Ukraine, during which discussions on humanitarian aid and Slovakia’s refusal to assist Ukraine militarily were planned. Fico also stated that Slovakia respects Ukraine’s decision to join the European Union, but they must meet the conditions.
