As of 16:00, the number of fatalities from the enemy missile strike on Chernihiv has increased to 16 people, with over 60 injured.

This was reported by the head of the regional administration (OVA), Vyacheslav Chaus.

Both civilians and medical personnel were affected by the morning missile attack on April 17 at the Chernihiv Central District Hospital.

Chaus noted that there could have been many more casualties. Everyone in the hospital was timely evacuated to shelter.

During an interview with KYIV24, the acting mayor of Chernihiv, Oleksandr Lomako, stated that the search operation is ongoing. According to him, the current death toll may not be final. Currently, six people are reported missing due to the rocket attacks on Chernihiv.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He reminded that the tragedy could have been avoided if Ukraine had received sufficient air defense systems and if the world’s determination to counter Russian aggression had been sufficient.

The explosions in Chernihiv occurred around 9 in the morning as people were commuting to work. It was reported that the Russians targeted Chernihiv with three Iskander cruise missiles.
