Valeriya Yezhova has been playing checkers with passers-by in Kyiv for several months and raising funds for the Armed Forces.
On Friday, August 19, a volunteer checkers tournament will be held in the premises of the Vcentri HUB of the Obolon district, with the participation of the 11-year-old world champion in checkers Valeriya Yezhova. This was reported by the Department of Public Communications of the Kyiv City State Administration.
During the tournament, everyone will have the opportunity to play with the champion. There is only one condition of participation – everyone who loses, pays a charitable contribution, which will be transferred to the official bank account of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Valeryya Yezhova started to play checkers four years ago, Kyiv City State Administration reports. The girl enrolled in a school club, and then began to improve her skills at the Kyiv Palace for Children and Youth. Today, she already has many awards and the World Champion title. Valeriya is now using her skills for the benefit of the country and has already managed to raise funds for the Armed Forces, the city administration notes.
“I wanted to help and asked my mother what I could do. She answered: do what you do best. We went to the nearest supermarket just for food, mom said: if you want, play here. When she left the supermarket, there was a long queue and half a box of money near me. It seems to me that my mother herself did not think that there would be so many willing to play. This is how this idea was gradually realized,” Yezhova says.
With a masterful play, the young volunteer has already raised over 70,000 hryvnias for Ukrainian soldiers.
“All Ukrainians should help their country,” the champion emphasizes.
Everyone can join the volunteer checkers tournament and meet the 11-year-old world champion next Friday at 3:00 p.m. at 22-A Obolonsky prospect.
Valeryya Yezhova raised 70 thousand hryvnias for the Armed Forces of Ukraine for a month of professional checkers.
