The airbase in Pskov was targeted by drones, resulting in the destruction of two and serious damage to two Il-76 transport aircraft.

This statement was made by Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in a comment to The War Zone.

“We are operating from Russian territory”, he said.

Budanov did not specify whether the attack was carried out by operatives from the Main Intelligence Directorate or Russian guerrillas. He also did not disclose the specific drones used or their quantity. Assessing the damage to the aircraft, Budanov mentioned that two planes were destroyed, and two more (Il-76 transport aircraft) were seriously damaged.

These aircraft are used by Russia for transporting military cargo and paratroopers. The drones targeted the upper parts of the aircraft, where fuel tanks and an important part of the wing’s spar are located.

As known, on the evening of August 31, Pskov in Russia was subjected to a drone attack. In addition to explosions, Pskov residents reported sounds of gunfire, which could be heard in the vicinity of the airfield and military compound.
