The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy, Yulia Sviridenko, stated that Ukraine may delay payments of pensions, salaries, and scholarships in 2024 if the West does not provide financial assistance.
This was reportedby the Financial Times.
“Next year, we will need external support amounting to $37 billion to ensure the stability of the economy and social payments”, Sviridenko said.
According to her, if assistance is not provided, Ukraine will have to cut expenses on social programs, including postponing salary payments to 500,000 civil servants and 1.4 million teachers, as well as benefits to 10 million pensioners.
Ukraine is estimated to need external support of $37 billion next year. Its deficit will push the Ukrainian economy back into a “survival” mode after it began recovering in 2023.
