Due to constant Russian shelling of the Bilopillia community, the authorities of the Sumy region have called on local residents to evacuate from the 10-kilometer zone.
This was announced by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artyukh, during a telethon.
“At the suggestion of the military command, taking into account the intensity of shelling of populated areas in the Bilopillia community, evacuation was recommended within a 10-kilometer zone. Although last year there was talk of a 5-kilometer zone”, the statement said.
The head of the Regional Military Administration explained that the authorities of the Sumy region announced a planned evacuation back in 2023, although at that time it was only about 115 populated areas. They were the ones included in the 5-kilometer zone.
“And we were constantly carrying out this work. As of today, over 12,500 people have been evacuated, including about 2000 children”, he said.
According to him, the Russians constantly shell the Bilopillia community with various types of weapons. They use drones, artillery, mortars, and other weapons.
Due to the fact that the occupiers are actively destroying the infrastructure of the region, the Defense Council recommended expanding the evacuation zone. The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration said that 28 people have currently left the region, including six children. They are being provided with assistance.
