The President of the Republic, Sauli Niinistö, made a decision on November 17, 2023, to support Ukraine based on the proposal of the Government. Finland will send defense materials to aid Ukraine, amounting to €100 million.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Finland.

Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen emphasized that when making the decision, they took into account both the needs of Ukraine and the resources of the Finnish defense forces.

“What is at stake in Ukraine’s defence struggle is the security environment outlook on Europe and Finland in the current decade. Together with our allies, we remain unwavering in our commitment to support Ukrainians”, the statement said.

The Finnish Ministry of Defense does not disclose details about the contents of the package, the method, or the timing of its delivery for operational reasons. This is also done to ensure that the aid reaches its destination safely. Overall, Finland has already allocated 20 military equipment packages to Ukraine with a total value of 1.5 billion euros.

Recall that on November 12, the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland, Ville Skinnari, outlined Finland’s plan to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine, which will consist of two parts, with the first expected to be prepared by the end of the year. He mentioned that Finland could participate, for example, in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly construction and the energy sector.
