German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has revealed the military assistance packages for Ukraine in 2024 and detailed their contents.

According to the German government, in 2024, Germany will provide Ukraine with:

  • New IRIS-T SLM air defense systems
  • Gepard anti-aircraft artillery systems
  • Additional artillery systems with over 230,000 shells
  • Over 80 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks
  • Armored personnel carriers
  • Engineering and bridge-laying tanks
  • 450 armored vehicles
  • Demining systems
  • Drones
  • Radar systems
  • Reconnaissance systems

During the “Rheinmetall” format meeting, Pistorius announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with six Sea King Mk41 multi-role helicopters for the first time. Additionally, in 2024, Germany plans to conduct training for 10,000 Ukrainian military personnel. Pistorius stated that logistical hubs in Poland have facilitated the regular transport of military equipment from Germany to Ukraine in recent weeks, including combat armored vehicles, over 100 logistics vehicles, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicle protection systems.

The German Defense Minister emphasized the need for increased speed in weapon production. Germany acknowledges the dual task of urgently meeting Ukraine’s immediate needs for weapons, materials, and training while committing to long-term support through modern systems, high-quality training, and resilient structures aligned with NATO armed forces. Earlier reports indicated that the Sea King military helicopters promised by Germany to Ukraine could arrive as early as April 2024. Germany assured that this transfer would not compromise the combat capability of the Bundeswehr, as they plan to gradually replace the Sea King with another model, Sea Lion. Ukraine has expressed interest in the Sea King model during consultations, including the transfer of spare parts and training.
