This decision coincides with increasing pressure on Prime Minister Viktor Orban to approve Sweden’s NATO membership.
Hungary is the last country obstructing Sweden, while Turkey supported the country’s application earlier this week.
Last month, Budapest vetoed a separate 50 billion euro economic support package, leading EU leaders to convene on February 1 in Brussels to either reach a compromise with Hungary or bypass its veto.
Hungary is also blocking the disbursement of the final 500 million tranche from the European Peace Fund. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that his country may consider supporting the disbursement after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart scheduled for Monday.
As known, on January 24, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico visited Ukraine. As a result of the visit, it became known that Ukraine would receive engineering equipment from Slovakia for the construction of defense fortifications. His country will also not block the large financial assistance package to Ukraine amounting to 50 billion euros.
