The International Coordination Group for Assistance to the Victims of Flight PS752 held negotiations with Iranian officials regarding the responsibility for the downing of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) flight on January 8, 2020. Meanwhile, the Iranian side continues to disregard the claims.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“The Coordination Group takes the principle of peaceful resolution of international disputes seriously and has made several attempts since 2020 to resolve the dispute over the downing of Flight PS752 through negotiations. In September 2023, Iran finally agreed to meet with all members of the Group for negotiations”, the statement said.
As reported by the Coordination Group, the key topics discussed during the negotiations were Iran’s responsibility for violating international law and the necessity for full compensation for the damage caused by Iran to Flight PS752.
“The Coordination Group regrets that Iran still does not wish to support our position in substance and continues to ignore our claims. Based on the discussions that took place this week, the Group believes that our position and Iran’s position are too far apart to be reconciled through negotiations”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
Therefore, as long as Iran refuses to acknowledge its full international legal responsibility, the Coordination Group will continue to take measures to resolve this dispute in accordance with international law, including within the framework of proceedings at the International Court of Justice.
It should be noted that in July, Ukraine and other members of the coordination group filed a lawsuit against Iran at the International Court of Justice for the downing of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Flight PS752.
