Latvia has transferred 66 vehicles confiscated from drunk Latvian drivers to Ukraine
This was reported by Delfi, citing data from the Latvian State Social Insurance Agency.
In accordance with the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, vehicles owned by Latvia can be transferred free of charge to the ownership of the Ukrainian government in order to prevent the consequences of the emergency situation associated with the hostilities in Ukraine and to support Ukrainian society.
In November of last year, amendments to the Criminal Code came into effect in Latvia, which provide for criminal liability for driving a vehicle with an alcohol concentration exceeding 1.5 per mille. If the owner drove the car under the influence of alcohol or refused testing, their vehicle is confiscated.
