According to aviation expert and analyst Konstantin Kryvolap, the new Russian missile X-50 is a budget version of the X-101.
He made this statement on the Kyiv television channel, noting that very little is known about the X-50.
“The X-101 is designed for a very long range, which the Russians do not currently need. Almost all missiles use the same engine, so by reducing fuel reserves, the missile can also be reduced in size. This allows for a greater number of missiles to fit into the Tu-95 or Tu-22M3 aircraft, meaning that they can carry a larger number of missiles with one plane”, — he said.
As we reported, according to available information, in June of this year, Russia plans to begin serial production of strategic air-launched cruise missiles of the X-50 type, which will allow the Kremlin to intensify missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine in the fall.
