On the morning of November 1, the Russians attempted to attack the Odesa region. Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted and shot down 2 guided aviation missiles, X-59.
This was reported by the Southern Air Command.
“On November 1, 2023, the Odesa air defense missile brigade of the Southern Air Command destroyed 2 guided aviation missiles, X-59, over the sea, which were launched from Russian tactical aviation aircraft and directed towards the Odesa region”, the statement said.
It’s worth noting that the X-59 missile is an “air-to-surface” class missile with a range of up to 280 kilometers, and it’s one of the types most frequently used by Russian Aerospace Forces to target military and civilian objects in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Air Force had previously reported missile threats, and monitoring groups noted the activity of Russian Su-30 aircraft over the Black Sea. Later, the military advised residents of Odesa and the surrounding areas to seek shelter, and there were reports of explosions in the Odesa region.
During the night of November 1, Ukrainian air defense successfully destroyed 18 out of 20 Shahed-136/131 drones and the guided missile X-59. The drones were neutralized along their flight paths by tactical aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force, in cooperation with the air defense forces of Ukraine.
