The Polish authorities have seized funds from the accounts of the Russian embassy and trade representation in Warsaw.

Russian Ambassador to Poland, Sergey Andreev, announced this, according to Russian media.

“We received a notification from the prosecutor’s office that funds from the embassy and trade representation’s accounts in Santander bank were transferred to the prosecutor’s accounts”, Andreev said.

According to him, there were significant amounts in US dollars and Polish zlotys in the accounts.

Afterwards, Santander bank informed the Russian embassy of the termination of cooperation with them and closed the accounts.

It is known that the accounts were frozen after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine due to suspicions of possible use for money laundering or terrorism financing. In April of this year, Polish court bailiffs seized a residential complex with 100 apartments in Warsaw, which was used by the Russian embassy, but was transferred to the state treasury of the republic by court decision.
