Russians hope that Western partners may stop providing military assistance to Ukraine If the Ukrainian army doesn't make progress on the front line by September.

This was stated by former KGB Soviet Union external intelligence officer Alexander Zelenko in an interview with the “Kyiv” television channel.

“He’s not going to achieve any great victories. Now he’s been told by the Ministry of Defense that a protracted war and time are working for Russia”, he emphasized.

According to Zelenko, if the Russians can drag out the absence of fluctuations in the front line until September, it will be very problematic to talk about assistance from the West to Ukraine.

“It will be said that ‘there are no victories in the Ukrainian army, that we are pouring water into sand, let’s sit down at the negotiating table’. He will drag it out, a complete defense, a complete` defense is built rigidly. We need to look at what’s happening in Bakhmut, what’s happening in Avdiivka, what’s happening under Svatove, our army is fighting incredibly difficult battles there”, added the former KGB Soviet Union external intelligence officer.
