This was reported by Major General Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
“There were 46, now there are 48. Two launcher systems have been added, creating an additional tactical group that is used for launching ballistic missiles from the territory of Russia,” he said in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine.” He also revealed that, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate, the ground component of the Russian army located on Ukrainian territory consists of about 470,000 personnel. “If we talk about what has changed during this time, it’s the number of troops deployed on our territory. Currently, the ground component, the land part of the deployment located on Ukrainian soil, amounts to approximately 470,000 military personnel. And this is just the ground component; I’m not including aviation, nor are we counting the naval fleet, which is also involved in operations and strikes”, Skibitskyi said.
The Iskander missile system has become a means not only of targeting military objects but also of terrorizing the civilian population of Ukraine. It was created to effectively strike particularly important small and area targets deep within the enemy’s operational structure.
However, in the current Russian-Ukrainian war, Russians define the task of the complex as striking the most important objects of civil infrastructure. For example, on the morning of February 15, during another missile strike on Ukraine, the Russians launched 6 ballistic missiles from the Voronezh region. According to the Air Force, these were Iskander-M missiles and, presumably, KN-23 ballistic missiles of North Korean production, which North Korea transfers to the terrorist country.
The air defense forces managed to destroy one Iskander-M missile, but the interception of other missiles was unsuccessful. This is because intercepting ballistic missiles is much more difficult than intercepting cruise missiles.
There is a risk that Russia is preparing a massive strike on Ukraine
It should be reminded that Natalia Humenyuk, the head of the press center of the Operational Command “South”, warned that in recent days, Russia has intensified its reconnaissance. This may indicate the preparation of a new massive attack on Ukraine. She noted that if the Russians endure a pause, it cannot be ruled out that they are preparing for a new attack.
“Now they are using pinpoint attacks. Clearly, against the background of aircraft losses, they are taking a pause. Accordingly, they may be preparing a massive attack”, Humenyuk said.
