Ukrainian military forces have managed to stabilize the situation on the front lines. However, Kyiv needs the support of international partners more than ever because Russia is preparing for a new counteroffensive in the summer.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with CBS News.

With the arrival of spring, Ukrainian troops have been able to stabilize the situation on the front lines. However, the winter months were quite challenging, the president said.

“We stabilized the situation. It’s better than it was two or three months ago when we had a significant shortage of artillery ammunition, various types of weapons. We absolutely didn’t see a big, huge counteroffensive from Russia… They weren’t successful,” Zelensky said.

The head of state emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs assistance. Russia has been able to completely destroy some cities and villages, and Ukrainian troops are not ready to defend against another major Russian offensive expected in the coming months.

“We didn’t have shells, artillery shells, many different things,” he said.

He added that the new Russian offensive is expected sometime in late May or June.

“And before that, we need not only to prepare, not only to stabilize the situation because sometimes our partners are very happy that we stabilized the situation. No, I say, we need help now,” Zelensky said about the United States and other supporters of Ukraine.

In this artillery war of attrition, Russia has an advantage not only due to a larger number of firepower but also because of the greater range of their weapons.

“It was very difficult to fight the enemy in Bahmut, Avdiivka, Lysychansk, Soledar, and so on,” he said.
