During the night of March 4-5, 2024, as a result of a special operation by the Main Intelligence Directorate in cooperation with the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Russian patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet "Sergey Kotov" was destroyed.

During the night of March 4-5, 2024, the special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, “Group 13,” attacked the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, the “Sergey Kotov.”

It is noted that the strike was carried out by maritime drones “Magura V5” on the Russian ship of project 22160 “Sergey Kotov.”

As a result, the vessel suffered damage to the stern, right, and left sides. The fire impact on the “Sergey Kotov” occurred in the territorial waters of Ukraine, near the Kerch Strait.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, the cost of the sunken ship is about $65 million.

Representative of the Ministry of Defense’s Main Intelligence Directorate, Yusov, told Radio Liberty that there were previously successful attacks on the ship, but it was restored.

“The enemy had plans for them. In addition to the patrol boat itself, there were also plans to place anti-aircraft missile systems on the same ship, such attempts have already been made”, he said.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, there are casualties and injuries as a result of the special operation. Some of the crew managed to evacuate, so the exact information is being clarified. At least 10 ambulances were called to the mainland, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate.

What is known about the ship:

“Sergey Kotov” is one of the newest ships in the Russian Navy. It was transferred to the fleet in July 2022, four years later than planned. The full displacement is 1800 tons, the crew consists of 80 people, and the sailing autonomy is up to 60 days.

Recall that on February 14, by the efforts of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a Russian large landing ship “Caesar Kunikov” was destroyed. It is noted that at the time of the strike, the ship was in the territorial waters of Ukraine near Alupka. In January, Crimean agents of the military-partisan movement “ATESH” discovered the sunken Russian guard ship of the “Tarantul” type. It was found at the berth of the Graf Bay in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. Also, in December 2023, the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a missile strike on the port of Feodosia in temporarily occupied Crimea. During the attack, the large landing ship “Novocherkassk” of the Black Sea Fleet was hit. After that, two more Russian ships left the bay of Feodosia.
