Last year, the Russian Federation produced about 2 million ammunition units of calibers 122 mm and 152 mm. This year, they are aiming for a quantity of 2.7 million units.

This was stated by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Vadym Skybytskyi, in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine”.

“Our assessment is that last year the Russians produced – simply fulfilled the state defense order – it’s about 2 million ammunition units of calibers 122 mm, 152 mm. But these are plans. Let’s see if they will be implemented”, said Skybytskyi.

According to him, the announced volumes require modernization of production in Russia. Western sanctions play an important role in this regard.

“We are asking our partners that sanctions should be aimed at machine tools, materials used for making electronic chips, microcircuits, and so on. So, this is a very wide range, and in this direction, the Main Intelligence Directorate and our entire intelligence community are working”, the Major General emphasized.

He stressed that dozens of enterprises and companies are involved in the production of various types of ammunition, weapons, and equipment.

Recall that on January 31, representatives of the European Union announced that they would not be able to provide the promised one million shells to Ukraine by March 1, 2024. By that time, EU countries will only accumulate 600,000 ammunition units.
